But, since all the girls we've seen so far are evil, I really hope Courtney Love turns out to be the evil mastermind. I love the flashbacks and the fact that they made Foxes seem innocent (even though she clearly sings "I know I'm bad news"). All the pitched instruments are built on chords rather than their own melodies. The rest of the background is pretty percussion oriented, so you can focus on the beat and the lyrics. This is a brilliant decision. She's perfect (except for, you know, when she turned evil).Īnd the instruments have a steady buildup to a point that doesn't overpower the song.
Foxes, featured here, also doesn't sound as unnatural as Big Sean last time. I have this undying love for Patrick Stump when he's actually singing, and this is glorious. Or, if they changed the video version like Fall Out Boy's "Just One Yesterday." It was too long and pointless. But I think this is unique enough to be hers. I've noticed Avril tries to copy styles (or exact words and melodies) from others. (I think I saw this pattern in Kelly Clarkson and Evanescence). She was once a rocker chick, but after moving to pop she's turned somewhat melancholy. He's making part of someone else's song his own, and I think that's actually pretty cool.īut this isn't Evanescence. I don't mind him in this because his guitar blends enough with the violins to create that sound that was once his. Once upon a time, I actually didn't mind Nickelback. I say near perfect because Chad's still in the song, which makes it slightly Nickelback. Like this one.) Evanescence could have taken this song to a whole different level. Avril's really just forcing herself in some parts. Either way, I feel Amy Lee's just a better vocalist. I think I heard a minor key, but I haven't taken music theory so I really can't say. The lyrics are pretty reminiscent of Evanescence, and so are the instrumentals (if you took out the acoustic guitar). Like, this would be a near perfect Evanescence song. But, even though I haven't really liked some of Avril's newer stuff, I figured this was still okay to review. Look at what came out today! A little clicking goes a long way. Maybe part of the reason I'm still listening is that I sort of like this guy friend that was singing this before marching. That may be why I've been listening to this on repeat. But on first listen, "Cay-Cay-Caymans" can be mistaken for "KKK." That's what I thought I heard, to be honest. The two versions have two very different styles, but I do think this acoustic one is better. The song itself can go either way because the lyrics don't necessarily go one way or the other. Without that layer of bass, this sounds clean. The original version is pretty bass heavy, which makes the song sound rough.
This acoustic version just flows better.Īnd other than that, you can hear the background melody so much better. I mean, my friend was right in telling me that the original was in shorter bursts. What I like about this compared to the original version is that it shows that Hoodie Allen is capable of changing pitch. Now I listened to them both, but I think I'll blog this one. This guy in band with me was singing this before the pregame show, and he said the acoustic version was better.
